Sorry if this an inappropriate question for this topic area, but can't seem to find any other resource to ask this.
My trial has ended for the AI Assistant and I'm getting reminded continuously that I need to register.
Pecking around the options, I take it that it is not offered as an Ultimate level “perk” but is in fact an added $100 - $200 a year additional license?

That is correct. AI Assistant is not included in IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate subscription.
