gradle tool window missing

In intelliJ 2016.3 when I create a new Spring Initializr (Spring boot) with gradle, the "gradle tool window" (right vertical tab option) is missing, if I re-import the project it works.
If I create a new gradle project it works fine, anyone knows if this is only related to Spring Initializr projects.

Create Spring Project (Gradle tool window missing), restart intellij and everything is detected just fine.

(In 2017.3 version this is still an issue)
I've got version 2018.1 and it's the same story here.
