How to remove highlight between braces/color for new files under the project

I have a Python file that I'm editing and it has a background in within the brace. How can I change or remove this? I checked all the settings in the Editor and don't see how to change it.

Also, when I create a new file, I can't find where to change the color. I'm assuming the new file has that color because it hasn't been published.

Can you post some screenshots? Maybe it's language injection?

If I understood you correctly this is a VCS status and colors can be modified in Settings at "Editor | Colors & Fonts | File Status"
