Ah, didn't see Randall's post just a bit earlier.
I probably should have clarified there (and will shortly) that this is specifically a Sun JVM 1.6.0_u18 (specifically u18) bug. It certainly did not appear in u17.

I'm using u18. I've added the -XX option you indicated and have not crashes since. Very good find. Thanks!
