How to speed up my intellij Experience?

I have opened a project on a network drive.
Since this is a network drive, sometimes file reading and writing can be slow.
I'm not 100% sure but this could be due to Local History being active. (my guesses)
Is there someway to disable local history or if it's not local history causing the issue do we know how to sort this problem out?
I am using IntelliJ Idea version 15.0.6

Network drives are known to cause performance issues. We highly recommend keeping your projects on the fast local drives.
You can disable automatic saving on frame deactivation and file synchronization on frame activation.
Local history doesn't affect it.
can you briefly tell me how to do it ?
