Free upgrade for 7.0 ??!!! wow !

I need to make sure I'm not dreaming !
Am I understanding http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/buy/index.html#upgradeuser well by understanding that anyone having bought an IDEA 6 license in the last year will qualify for a free upgrade for 7 ?
Does this also include anyone having upgraded from 5 to 6 in the same timeframe too ?

If the above two questions get a "yes", then Hats OFF to Jetbrains team, this is a VERY nice offer !!

Read more carefully. The text talks about upgrading to Idea 6.

I think the page is slightly confusing. The headline tells you that if you buy version 6 now, you will get the free upgrade to version 7 (which is coming soon).

The rest of the page tells you that you can get a free upgrade to version 6 if you bought your license after 12 July 2006, etc. This is presumably aimed at late version 5 purchasers.

what made me look at that page is this announcement http://blogs.jetbrains.com/idea/2007/08/intellij-idea-7-passes-milestone-2/

which states "When you buy IntelliJ IDEA version 6.0 before the end of 2007, you get all IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 Milestone releases for commercial use immediately, plus you can upgrade to IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 for free as soon as it is released!".

So i checked the upgrade licensing info and as you pointed out, it seems it needs clarifications.
Jetbrains guys, what's your take at it ?

Hello Thibaut,

what made me look at that page is this announcement
http://blogs.jetbrains.com/idea/2007/08/intellij-idea-7-passes-milesto
ne-2/

which states "When you buy IntelliJ IDEA version 6.0 before the end of
2007, you get all IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 Milestone releases for commercial
use immediately, plus you can upgrade to IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 for free as
soon as it is released!".

So i checked the upgrade licensing info and as you pointed out, it

The main thing to be clarified is that the announcement meant "between yesteday
and the end of 2007". Those who bought a license before the announcement
was made do not qualify for the free upgrade.

We do such a free upgrade offer before every major release of IDEA and ReSharper.

it certainly would have been the right thing to do considering what a piece of **** version 6 was.

(sorry, i love IDEA but v6 almost had me switch to eclipse)

Well that's nice and constructive. So anything particular you're hoping
to see in version 7 to restore your faith?

What is the upgrade policy / price for a purchaser of a personal license for version 6 with a license issuance date of, say, Nov. 16, 2006 (just to pick a random date that happens to be the same as that for my own v6 license)?

well , I bought a personal license for 6, ... and almost never used it as as soon as 7 EAP started i switched to it and very rarely went back to the release.

I had no problems with v6, I just found that the new features in 7 were so great I had to use them !

i just found it incredibly buggy for the projects i was working on compared to 5. it never worked well with my project structures, ant build files, jsps, etc...

7.0 is great, i've been using it ever since they started the weekly releases. they have had dozen's of bug fixes weekly that they never backported to 6.0.

i don't mean to be unconstructuve but 6.0 was unusable for me. i'm very happy with where 7 is now.

The upgrade policy was laid down when you bought the license I suspect,
and in my similar case there was a mention of 40% off new versions.
Hence I would expect the personal idea 7.0 license to cost me 150 USD.
