For some reason no Local History is being saved for any of my files. When I right-click on an item and select Local History, the list is empty. Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks.
We've received a number of reports for this problem, but unfortunately we haven't been able to track down why it happens. A known workaround is File | Invalidate Caches.

While invalidating the caches worked for me. It seems to be only a temporary fix. It seems that in time the index gets corrupted again. Is there any other work around for this? Thanks!
Yesterday IDEA spontaneously announced (on the status line, I think) that the caches had become corrupt and were being rebuilt. Today I find that I have no local history. I had a large amount of local history on a large number of files and it was important to me. I had hoped that your workaround would recover the history, but the dialog which appears if I choose File/Invalidate Caches says that local history will be cleared, so I haven't gone down that route.
I'm a little confused - will "invalidate caches" recover the local history or wipe it? In what sense is it a workaround to the problem?
On previous versions, I don't believe "invalidate caches" wiped the local history did it?
"Invalidate caches" wipes the existing corrupted local history and allows new local history entries to be recorded.

Hello, 'File | Invalidate Caches' doesn't work for me, even if I restart. I'm not sure when's the last time I saw it working, but it definitely was not working for me in 11.1.1 and so I updated to EAP 11.1.3 to see if it was fixed for my case, but it wasn't, and then an error popped up in that version:
InvalidVirtualFileAccessException: Accessing invalid virtual file: file:////<my home directory>/.IntelliJIdea11/config/port: Accessing invalid virtual file: file:////<my home directory>/.IntelliJIdea11/config/port
Would anyone happen to know if this is relevant to Local History always being empty for me or not? and, if yes, what could I do about it? (i.e. before waiting for a JetBrains fix - I submitted the error report) Thanks!

That seemed to help. I appreciate it.

Hi -

Hello Pete,
"Invalidate caches" wipes the existing corrupted local history and allows
new local history entries to be recorded.
