Limited support for GWT 1.6 (using new classes instead of deprecated ones to run the GWT compiler and the hosted mode browser) will be available in one of next minor releases (8.1.x). But full support will be available only in IDEA 9 (see http://jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEADEV-34713 for details).
Hi,
I haven't tried GWT 1.6 yet but I've read that there are big changes in the project and output structures.
Cool, but earlier you said that some minor changes (I think these from http://jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEADEV-34713) will appear in IDEA 8.1.x.... There is still a long time to IDEA 9 :/
I said that IDEA 8.1.1 will use new classes instead of deprecated ones to run GWT compiler and the hosted mode browser. IDEA 8.1.1 will indeed use new GWT compiler class but not new GWT Hosted Mode class. It reveals that correct support of new GWT Hosted Mode requires a lot of changes and it's too risky to backport these changes into 8.1.x.

I'm running 8.1.1 EA (build 9805)...I don't see any GWT 1.6 options. Is it coming in a later EA?
thanks,
jay
I'm also looking forward for release with support of GWT 1.6.
Could you provide fix version field in JIRA? Or just tell when we have the "fixed" version of IDEA? Even EAP build.
Thanks!
All sub-tasks of the issue have fix version "First Maia EAP" so it will appear in the first EAP build of IDEA 9.
