Function keys on OS X
I'm an OS X newbie.... I can't figure out how to get the functions keys to work properly with IJ. I'm running the debugger and F8 toggles itunes play/pause (which is the symbol on the f8 key)
Note I'm using a mac keyboard....
I read that hiting the "fn" key and then the function key in quesiton solves it. However when I do fn-F8 I get a funky zoomed out view of all the windows on the system.
any suggestions?

I am guessing your system is not a new install.
Go to System Preferences > Expose.
Under Expose, there are three actions that you can assign key strokes to:
"All Windows"
"Application Windows"
"Show Desktop"
Next to each of those is two drop downs. Likely for All Windows or Application Windows, you have fn in the first drop down and F8 in the second. The default install of OS X 10.5 uses these keys instead:
"All Windows" F9
"Application Windows" F10
"Show Desktop" F11
You could change your keys to match the default install above, or you could simply find another key stroke for the one that has fn+F8. You could also disable it simply by setting both drop downs to "-".

Sorry, that is incorrect. Should have verified it before I posted...
Go to the same place in System Preferences, but choose Spaces instead. At the bottom is, "To activate Spaces." Change that to something else or just leave it a dash "-". After all, you can click on the spaces icon in the dock to activate that view.
Plus if you want to avoid the need to use the FN key to get the function keys to work, System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Use all F1..... as standard function keys will do it. Then you'll have to use the FN key to do the screen dimming/volume etc.

What if there is no Fn key on the keyboard?
Then you can't dim your screen :)
AFAIK all Mac keyboards have them.

Correct, but I don't know any desktop machine which allows to dim the screen
from a normal keyboard.
Not mine. Note, I don't have a notebook, just a Mac mini with a normal
external Apple keyboard.
