I would recommend you to post this to Sun as a javac bug as well.

thanks for the quick response, but as i noted in the bug report, this particular behaviour is not happening when i use Eclipse using the same JDK (1.4.2_10), so i don't think it's javac related.

Eclipse uses its own compiler, doesn't it?
