White stripe in 'Error Stripe' area?

In one of my JSPs, there are two white stipes in the 'Error Stripe' area.

don't see anything wrong with the code and nothing in the docs about white
stripes in this area. What do they mean? I'm attaching a screen print. You
can see the location of the cursor (line 174) when I click on the stripes.
