performance problem on ubuntu 8.10 (intel core2duo)
I got performance problems on ubuntu 8.10 (x86) using newest build 820. My config is core2duo 2,2 ghz with 2 gb of ram.
Rubymine is slow, even typing cursor sometimes slows down when i'm moving it with arrow keys. Top menu's are laggy etc.
I'm attaching cpu report.

Hello Piotr,
What version of Java do you use? Java had perfomance issues on Ubuntu before version 1.6 update 12
Thanks,
Oleg
Thank you!
I was using java version from repositories (it Was 1.6.0.10). Manual installation of 1.6.0.13 give Rubymine really nice performance boost
Perhaps you should include in your faq guide how to update java for ubuntu users?
Piotr,
Are you using the intel graphics driver? On my old laptop I had serious
problems with any java based application because of a bug in hardware
acceleration the intel x-server. It got so bad I had to dump the laptop
because all my java GUI's were dog slow.

If you want to install the ubuntu 9.04 alpha, or wait till it's release
at the end of this month, I believe it is fixed there.
cheers,
Charles

I'm using Intel integrated graphics. I will give 9.04 beta a try, thx for advice.
However after java update and also X server update (which i did earlier) performance is at acceptable level.
How to get RubyMine working well on Ubuntu 8.10
Does this help?

Nope, after changing x11org.conf my xserver won't start, so i must change it back.
However with edge version of x11 drivers and sun java 6.0.13 performance is acceptable.
However acceptable is not satisfying me, i'm updating now to ubuntu 9.04 beta
Hello guys,
You are talking x11org.conf. Isn't it a misprint? Are you talking about /etc/X11/xorg.conf configuration file?
By the way, Ubuntu 9.04 is pretty stable for me, and its Xorg server has built in technics to detect your videocard and all devices even without file xorg.conf.
Thanks,
Oleg
Yes, ofc i mean xorg.conf.
I will post in probably 30 mins about perf after update.
as usual (for me) updating distro ended in total system breakdown.
so i installed debian 5.0 lenny, and rubymine (and java, and whole system) performance is great thx for everyone help.
