Near the top of each individual formu's page are two tabs: "Overview" and "Discussions". The default is Overview and is what you describe (I think). Click "Discussions" to see each discussion / topic shown with a single entry, sorted with the most-recently-modified topic first. Then click the "Set as default tab" text / link to the right of the tabs. In the future, you will see this view by default when visiting that forum. This view preference is maintained separately for each forum.
Note that in the Discussions mode you have to click the link bearing an age description (e.g., "39 minutes ago") in the "Last Post" column to be taken directly to the most recent post. If you click the topic title on the left, the resulting page will be positioned (scrolled) to the top and you'll have to purse the posting dates to see which was the new post.
Yes, I was aware that Overview was date ordered, but I like to see the views/replies figures too.
The discussion forum seems to be mostly date ordered with a random scattering of randomly dated posts to confuse me. I don't know why they are there, and it would be nice not to see them.

You can also use a newsreader and access the NNTP service that JetBrains has set up. That's how I access these forums, and it mostly works well. Quotes and jive emoticons aside.
I have a feeling that this might be related to some spam. Last week someone spammed the forum replying to multiple threads with the same message. These posts got removed but they might have changed the last modification time on the thread or something like that.

It wasn't that the threads had been revived - it was the Last Post dates that alerted me to the problem.
Oddly enough, it seems to be fixed now - the threads all seem to be in the correct order...
