that is really only 8 weeks away. I think that is a pretty aggressive estimate. There is a lot to do still. Looking at all the bugs/features that are not done yet. J2EE/openAPI/help files ect.
I hope that until end of EAP there still will be time for some improvements in areas that made IDEA to what it is now: refactorings. Especially I think in the direction of "Make Instance Method" and "Move Instance Method". These are features, that users need (at least me) - not gimmicks like animated scrolling.
"Make Method Instance" and "Move" (for an instance method) have been discussed for at least a year-and-a-half now, and there's been very little interest from JetBrains. They're not in the Aurora roadmap, and it seems very unlikely they'll do them in the next nine weeks. That said, I was in the process of writing up a kick-off post for "Top Five Features you want for the next IDEA release", and that was definitely on my list.
Shouldn't our top 10 list come out of the voting forums? I personally dislike those type of threads because the smaller but loud minority often get heard. It's easy to get 3 or 4 loud users complaining about aspectj (probably maven this time) and next thing you know we all pay for a feature that only a few care about.
Is there is any way for me to convince you NOT to post a
"what do you want next in idea" or "what is your biggest complaint" ?
Actually, the voting forums came out big for both AspectJ and Maven, as I recall, while the previous "Things you most want to see in Aurora" thread included a lot of people trying to shout them down. (Note, for instance, that Maven and Subversion support are the highest current open vote getters. Not bad for freeware products in beta with tiny user-bases.) That's part of what I was hoping to avoid.
As usual Thomas, I completely agree. Please implement "move instance method" before going to a freeze. Stay ahead of your competition in an arena that has always been yours. Please give us poor souls that cannot use the big aurora features (generics, aspects, gui builder) a really needed, always usable, cost reducing/quality improvement feature. I understand the reason for doing the other big items but I still don't understand why they were more important in your opinion (BTW I do not want to start another flame here. I am just begging for this refactoring as so many of us have done in the past).
All features which will be included into Aurora release are already marked with "Planned for version" == "Aurora" in the tracker. No more features are planned to be added.

Well that is too bad that "move instance method" refactoring (that Eclipse has right now) is not in that list but I understand that you have to draw the line. BTW do I imagine things or was that refactoring supposed to be done in Aurora at one point in the past?
since we're getting close, can we get a status update for AspectJ integration? I asked over in the aspect forum, but haven't gotten much of a response...
Somethink wrong in time on forums? I just look at post time and can't belive on that. The midnight, but JetBrains is continue working... Maybe it becouse we always ask for new build :(, but men is not machines... Since this time i never will vote for faster build releasing. A pity point of my view!

Yes, that is correct. But as you rightly said, we have to draw the line at some point. IDEA without "Move method" is better than dead IDEA, isn't it?

Thomas, could you diversify your list of gimmicks a bit, please? :) There is only one that you complain about so far :)

From my personal point of view, a very big one is AspectJ (yes, I know, it might have some value in a small border case). Don't know how large the cost-value-ratio is...
Probably the end of November.

Hi Valentin,
I hope that until end of EAP there still will be time for some
improvements in areas that made IDEA to what it is now: refactorings.

And don't forget optimizations.

maybe you could provide a high level list of options to keep people on topic liek
a. refactorings
b. ui improvements
c. maven
