How to use lens mode

I am wanting to use the lens mode where I hover over a file in the project view to see parts of the file that I have selected. when i do so, there is nothing that happens. Is there something I need to change in the preferences?

Lens Mode
Hover the mouse over a warning, error strip or just some section on the scroll bar, and PhpStorm shows you the source code fragment annotated with the warning/error message.
