Per my understanding, some time ago I downloaded the community edition. Thinking it was the free community edition of IntellliJ IDEA IDE.
As it turns out I was mistaken. Now it seems evaluation has expired and IntelliJ IDEA refuses to start.

Community edition never expires, you must be running Ultimate in trial mode. See About screen to verify.
If you want to switch to the Community Edition, download and install it from http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/index.html.
