WebStorm high amount of CPU

Thank you for sharing the snapshot. The registered CPU usage is not that high, about 40%. Chances are it's not WebStorm itself that consumes resources but a child process spawned by it. Please could you check what processes are consuming the CPU? You can expand the WebStorm node in the task manager to see the usage of each subprocess.

Additionally, would it be possible to collect and share log files after reproducing the issue?
These can be collected with the Help > Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data menu action.The snapshot reveals some issues with the JVM, the logs can help us to investigate it further.

The issue occurred for a few days, then nothing.
If that happens again, I will open a new case.

Webstorm became completely unusable, each key stroke spikes CPU on all cores. 10 years using this tool and now got to seek an alternative. Sad. 

Would it be possible to collect a CPU snapshot while reproducing the issue:
1) Help > Diagnostic tools > Start CPU usage profiling
2) perform the actions which are causing the high CPU usage
3) Help > Diagnostic tools > Stop CPU usage profiling
 
and share it along with the IDE logs (can be collected with the Help > Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data menu action) and the detailed description of your steps in a new youtrack ticket (https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/WEB)?
