White text caret fix
The caret is gone now replaced by this white block that when you press space it deletes the letter you are typing.
Cannot go in between letters cannot make a space and it is annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this. I am total beginner
P.S. block caret is turned off.

Do you have VIM plugin installed and enabled? If yes, please try disabling it and check if the problem persists.
Otherwise, please try pressing the Insert button on your keyboard, it should switch the input method.

This helped me. I pressed the insert key (most likely by mistake). You can toggle the correct mode by pressing the insert key.
