disk icon - save file; can you visually be shown if currently saved or not
I am use to visually seeing wither I need to save or not. Right now I just unnecessarily click it allot.
Is there a setting for me to change it to what I expect?

Icon -- no; Only editor tabs.
Settings/Preferences | Editor | General | Editor Tabs | Appearance | Mark modified (*)
Plus, by default IDE autosaves files when you switch to another app / execute some command in Terminal / Run some configuration / etc.
