Can't deploy unversioned files?
The option's grayed out on a log file generated locally... it's not for versioned files; I honestly am not sure why it wouldn't think I shouldn't deploy unversioned files through FTP to an external server.

"Deployment" option is greyed out? Could you please attach some screenshots that would illustrate the issue in details?
There's no reason behind that, it's a bug: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-17676
