Typing in the editor

Sometimes when trying to type in the editor all my typing ends up in the terminal. All open IntelliJ windows types in the same terminal. The cursor is blinking in both the editor and the terminal. Closing the terminal fixes the issue, but i run my project on localhost with NPM in the terminal so its a bit annoying having to close and reopen it.
Does anyone know if this is a bug or if it is me making a mistake somewhere?
