Typing into and scrolling in code panes awfully laggy in recent versions on macOS?

Does anybody know some tweaks to make typing into code panes more responsive, especially when the structure overview is visible?

Maybe it's just me getting more impatiently, but to me it feels as if PhpStorm on macOS became _much_ slower in recent times. On one of my Macs, I already had to disable font ligatures to make scrolling in code panes less a pain. Typing feels kinda laggy on all my machines and becomes almost intolerable when the structure overview is visible, which updates itself (including flickering content) at almost every keystroke.
