WSL2 IDE Information a Nightmare to find- It's works great
So I've recently been wanting to get a proper development environment setup on my desktop- which runs Windows. I use MacOS at work, and some colleagues have had less than ideal experiences using Docker on Windows, so I never got round to doing much development on my personal machine. I hated the idea of not having unix commands.
Anyhow having been very late to the party on finding out about WSL2, I started looking at using it on my PC. Everything I found about using it with a JetBrains IDE was either complaints, or people saying it doesn't work. Most videos on Youtube cover VSCode, with the ONLY one I could find that covers PHPStorm now being out of date, as it suggested running the Linux version of PHPStorm to combat issues with slow indexing (which seems fixed!).
I decided to just try it, thinking what's the worst that can happen, and all I can say, is that it is truly amazing how seamless it is. Docker works fantastically, Git works fantastically, and I had no indexing issues/slowness whatsoever.
You literally just open the IDE, find the project in a file browser, and that's it!
Is this a way bigger deal to me than it is to other people out there? I love using JetBrains products, but having thought that this wouldn't work properly, it was making me debate moving to VS Code for personal development.
JetBrains, get a either a video or document guiding people through the process here (even though simple to do if you just 'try it', most of the stuff top page Google was about complaints or things saying it's there but with not much on how to use it), or if there is stuff there, making it more publicised would be really useful for people! The product has been absolutely great so far!
