Recent files: don't close files on backspace

If you hit and hold backspace when in "Recent files", it starts to close fles until none are left. I frequently do this by accident when deleting text I'm searching for. Eg I have "some_file_name.." typed, hit backspace to delete that, but end up closing a bunch of files.

Mega annoying. Is there a way to tell pycharm / other jetbrains IDEs not to delete files on backspace?

If not, is there a way to order files in shift shift > files by recency? I'm trying to get to a view of files by recency that doesn't get destroyed every couple hours by accident haha
