Cannot start AI trial

已回答

Hi,

I just installed fresh EAP, registered my new Jetbrains account, logged in to IDE, but I can not enable AI trail, I'm getting error message:

What am I doing wrong?

IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2 EAP
Build #IU-262.7132.23, built on June 4, 2026
Source revision: 88faa234249d6
Licensed to IntelliJ IDEA EAP user
Expiration date: July 4, 2026

Hi,

The problem is caused by the type of IDE license currently in use. The “IntelliJ IDEA EAP user” license is a free evaluation license, and at the moment the AI Assistant trial cannot be activated when the IDE is running under a free evaluation or offline activation-code license — the trial requires an eligible paid (or otherwise non‑evaluation) IDE license that is linked to your JetBrains Account.

To start the AI trial, please:

1. Install the latest stable (non‑EAP) IntelliJ IDEA version 2023.3 or newer and activate it with an eligible license on the same JetBrains Account you use inside the IDE (Help | Register / Manage Licenses).

2. In that IDE, open the AI Assistant / AI Chat tool window and click Start Free Trial, making sure you are logged into the correct JetBrains Account.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

Hi,

As I understand, you are talking about “AI Pro Trial” 10 credits/month? And that's for stable branch.

Do you mean “AI Trial for EAP” for 3 months (20 credits/month) is not possibile to activate anymore? As I remember, previous EAP lines was able to activate it. Is it closed forever, or there's some plans to enable it again?

Hi,

The standard JetBrains AI Trial / AI Pro trial (sometimes shown as a “10-credits trial” for personal accounts and 20 credits for some business plans) is a generic JetBrains AI plan and not specific to EAP builds.
The separate “Trial for EAP” AI license you used before is a different thing: it is a 3-month EAP AI trial license with its own quota, and it is always tied to a specific major EAP line only and ends together with that EAP. It cannot be used on RC builds or on the next EAP line (for example, a 2026.1 EAP AI trial license cannot be reused on 2026.2 or future 2027.x EAPs).

Your previous 3-month “Trial for EAP” was specific to the earlier EAP line and can’t be re-activated on the new one; this doesn’t mean EAP AI trials are gone, but they are per-EAP-line, not a permanent 3-month AI license across all future EAP builds.

But it can't be enabled on current EAP - it throws “Trial not allowed”, as original question says.

Does that trial for eap still exist, or not, if so - why “trial not allowed”? Please clarify? Thanks

Hi,
The separate “Trial for EAP” AI license still exists, but it’s issued once per major EAP line and only during a limited window, so it can’t always be started on later EAP builds. “Trial not allowed” means the system can’t issue a new EAP AI trial for your account on this EAP line.

Hi,

Are you going to make possible to activate that separate AI Trial license again for current EAP line? I did not activate it and now I can't do that, when should we expect it to be possible again?

Hi,

The separate “Trial for EAP” AI license still exists, but it is issued per major EAP line and only during a limited availability window; for the current 2026.2 EAP line the backend is no longer granting new EAP AI trials, so “Trial not allowed” means we currently can’t create that EAP trial for your account. We don’t have an ETA or a way to re‑enable this EAP‑specific trial for the current line; if we run another EAP AI trial campaign it will be announced on the IntelliJ IDEA EAP / release channels.

Hello,

I am sorry, but it's not clear for me, still. You mean, currently it's not possibile to activate AI Trial for Eap. It's not a bug, you just disabled new trials activation on your servers. Is that true?

So, do you plan to unlock new trials activation again,  if so - when should we expect it? Thanks

Hi,

This is not a bug and not something you set up wrong.

For the current 2026.2 EAP line, our backend is not issuing new "Trial for EAP" AI licenses at the moment, so the request returns "Trial not allowed" even though the IDE still shows the Start Free EAP Trial button. The button is still shown even though the trial cannot be granted right now, but this does not mean anything is wrong with your account.

The EAP AI trial program ended on June 1, 2026, which is why new EAP AI trials cannot be started on the current line.

We do not have an ETA or a confirmed plan to reopen the EAP-specific AI trial for the 2026.2 line. If a new EAP AI trial campaign is run, it will be announced on the usual IntelliJ IDEA.

EAP and release channels, so following those is the best way to know if it becomes available again.

About the YouTrack link: apologies, it is an internal issue and is not accessible from outside JetBrains. There is a general AI Assistant licensing information, which can be found here: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/ai-assistant/licensing-and-subscriptions.html

If you would like to use JetBrains AI in the meantime, you can do so on a stable (non-EAP) build using the AI Free tier.

Details are here: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/ai-assistant/licensing-and-subscriptions.html
