Hi Michael, the Welcome tab is the non-modal Welcome screen that PyCharm 2026.2 opens by default. To switch back to the classic modal dialog, open Settings | Advanced Settings, find the Welcome Screen section and uncheck "Show the Welcome screen in non-modal mode". Unchecking "Show this page on startup" directly on the Welcome tab does the same. Details: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/welcome-screen.html
The Version Control tool window appears only when version control integration is enabled for the project, for example when the project folder is a Git repository. To remove it, delete the mapping under Settings | Version Control | Directory Mappings. To hide it for the moment, press `Shift+Escape` or click the Hide button in its header.
