Defect after Update to IntelliJ Idea 2021.3: Files not loading, IDE unusable

After updating to version 2021.3 today, the Project-Panel didn't list any files for existing projects. In case of new projects, files were shown, but couldn't be opened - the IDE was completely unusable.
Apparently the newest version of the plugin for the R language support causes this bug, see also this issue. If i uninstall / deactivate this plugin, everything works fine. It took me a while to figure this out, so it would be great if this could be fixed soon.

As a workaround please consider using the previous build from https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/other.html .
