If there's a common general pattern which should be supported automatically, then please file a feature request.The current solution offers maximum flexibility w/r to project setup/structure.

At least in IJ 13 you can add as many @NotNull/@Nullable annotations as you want in inspection settings for "@NotNull/@Nullable problems".

"Second, the reliability of the local history is not guaranteed." you _really_ better not rely on local history - as soon as IDEA's indexes die for some reason, it will be gone as well
