Nope, you have to specify files to ignore only in .gitignore.I would highly recommend upgrading to 3.1 since there are a lot of new feature, performance was also increased.

Marcio,please check that .git/objects folder has correct permissions. Actually all .git directory should be read- and writable for the user you're committing from.
