Attach to Local process works by attaching debugger to a process by pid. What you are describing is more like remote debugging (on a local host) that we are planning for CLion 2016.2.

Rich, I'm afraid CLion doesn't support GDB older than 7.8 (officially. technically, older than 7)

@Jeff @Charles, you seem to have issues with Node.js debugger. (https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WEB-21192) The issue should be fixed in the latest 2016.1.2 update.
