Unable to setup Groovy SDK in IDEA 2017.1

I'm working on a mac (macos sierra) and have installed groovy using homebrew. When I point the location of the groovy sdk to be /usr/local/opt/groovy/libexec I get the error "Looks like Groovy Distribution in specified path is broken. Cannot determine version". When I choose the parent directory, I get no error message, but the SDK is not setup. I also downloaded the groovy sdk from the groovy site and tried using that. But I get the same error.

The same steps worked in 2016.3.5

Am I missing something?
