Stuck with a theme

Answered

I installed 2017 today.  When I imported my colour schemes from 14.1.7, it asked if I wanted to try a new theme.  I was curious to see Darcula.  I applied it.  After deciding that I didn't like it, I tried to change it but have now found it permanently associated with my custom colour scheme...  How can I remove it without having to abandon and completely recreate my custom colour scheme from scratch?

Could you please clarify what it means exactly?

Settings -> Editor -> Colors & Fonts -> Scheme

If I change to the custom scheme that I had, I now get Darcula when I didn't before.  If I change to a default scheme and then back to my custom scheme, there's Darcula again.  I do not see a way to get rid of Darcula from my custom scheme...

Please be aware that there are 2 different schemes, editor scheme and IDE scheme, IDE scheme is changed in Appearance & Behavior | Appearance. Is that your problem?

No.

I already tried that.   If I go into Appearance & Behavior -> Appearance and change the theme.  This automatically changes the Editor -> Colors & Fonts -> Scheme to "Default".

When I then reset the latter to my custom scheme, I'm back to Darcula...

First change the editor scheme, then IDE theme. Also your custom scheme is probably inherited from Darcula, hence the described behavior.

I'm not trying to be contrary here, but I believe that's exactly what I just described doing.

My scheme - which I have been using for many years - did not involve Darcula at all until it was imported to 2017 this morning.

Please share your scheme so that we can try to reproduce the problem. Also clarify what do you want to achieve, default IDE theme (not Darcula) + your custom editor scheme?

Yes, that's exactly what I had before - the "IntelliJ" IDE theme and my custom editor scheme.

Do you want me to copy and paste the content of the icls file here?  I don't see a way to attach it.

Thanks!

Thank you.  I will send the file as detailed in the article and will reference this post.

We've discussed the problem via support ticket and here is how to resolve it.

Normally one should get this dialog when trying to set dark editor scheme while IDE theme is bright:

Just answer "No" and you are good.

However, if you tick the "Remember, don't ask again" checkbox, the only way to revert this choice is by editing CONFIG/options/options.xml when IDE is not running, locate and remove this line:

    <property name="change.laf.on.editor.theme.change" value="true" />
