lines length reformat when pasting text to File

While writing in a FILE. When I copy some text and paste it into it I get a very long line instead of adjusting the text to the desired lines length I already have set. I tried to use the short cut Ctrl + Alt + L. but it doesn't work. For now, I do it manually, I go to the end of the line and press Enter over and over again What can I do?
