Unable to use IntelliJ 2017.2 with Gradle 4.x

I have been using IntelliJ with gradle but upgrading IntelliJ to 2017.2 is causing problems. When I try and load the project in IntelliJ with both gradle 4.0 and 4.0.1, I get the following error:

Error:Could not run build action using Gradle distribution 'https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-4.0.1-all.zip'.

I get this error when I try to do a project refresh.
