Intellij Update Path
Either I don't know what intellij wants me to do for upgrading or intellij has the worth update path from a user experience I've seen. Every time I have an update pending in intellj I seriously hate see'ing it and put it off for weeks because of the pain brought on by the process involved. The fact that I have to download another full copy of the product unzip it and then copy my settings over to the new folder just seems like a ton of work in 2017, when we have products like chrome browser which updates automatically in the background without a hitch. I mean intellij updates that install a simple patch to update the product seem few and far between, and majority of the updates involve having to download the entire gz package and forcing me to go research exactly how I switch my current version to the newest version and maintain my settings across the board. At the very minimum, can you guys at least put some strong effort into making the upgrade path much easier for your consumers? I mean even if you have to download the new version, and maneuver my settings to the new folder then delete the old version's folder with a fancy UI and a progress bar, then I'm ok with that, but the current upgrade solution sucks.
When a product gets updates it's supposed to get your consumer excited and want to play with the new features, not dread the process of what it takes to update.
