How to show and open files in Project files (left panel)

It's kotlin project.
Project Files mode splits that window into two parts: kotlin files and all other files. So I have two root directories there. I can open code files only in code root directory and all other files in common root directory.
In project mode is ok, but I cannot just open code file. Every time I click the file it shows its content.
default mode is just empty.
Is it possible to view just all files?

Do you mean that when you click on a file it doesn't open in an editor? What exactly happens instead? Please provide a video.
