IntelliJ very very slow since last update

When I type in IntelliJ, I have to wait a second after each key press for the character to appear. I could type an entire sentence in a text editor in the same amount of time it takes to type "<div>" in Intellij.

When I try to double click a file name in the project window to go to that file, I often have to click many times before it will show that file. When I click a tab to go to that file it takes a long time to switch to the chosen file.

These are just some examples of how slow IntelliJ has been since the last update. I've tried uninstalling the plugins, but that doesn't seem to help. Is there some way for me to identify what might be causing the performance problems?
