Issues with SQL and Console editor

When I try to use the editor with a scratch file or console I'm unable to edit text after I've typed it (backspace delete etc). This pretty much makes the product unusable. Any idea what's going on? I've been using multiple other jetbrains IDEs for years with no issues so it shouldn't be java version or something like that.

I also noticed this happened when trying to create a data source, basically any text entered into the IDE becomes un-editable. Nothing appears to be frozen or anything like that.
