Autocompletion, in-line error checking, etc. not working

This is a new problem today. I just updated to 2017.3 today, and now I keep having a problem where autocomplete and error checking just stops working.
Quitting IntelliJ and then restarting will restore the functionality, but very briefly, then it goes back to dead. I can compile and run code, I'm just not getting any interactivity from the IDE in the editor.

Please try File | Invalidate Caches | Invalidate and Restart.
Check that Power Save mode is not enabled.
