Feedback on why I bought aJetbrains Individual All Products license

Answered

I've placed this in the 'IntelliJ' forum but it applies to all products.

I believe it's important to provide feedback to companies on why their customers bought their products. I had a need to use several Jetbrains products. Wile I work in IT for a large financial company I no longer code as my day-to-day job. But I wanted to return to coding to develop several ideas and with a view to starting a company around my ideas. While it would have been cheaper to buy just the IntelliJ Ultimate license and use mutliple plugins I decided it would be better overall value to buy an All Products license, with the potential for me to learn several new languages if required. Here are the reasons why:

1) I trialled several of your tools and found them excellent. When returning ot Eclipse I could see that there were features that I preferred in Jetbrains.

2) I like the option of either using a single product with plugins, or using seperate IDE's.

3) I will only buy tools which are cross-platform. I currently use Windows, have previously used Linux a lot and occasionally use Mac OS. So it is essential to me that any tool I buy will work on all platforms. I don't know whether I'll be on another OS in a few months.

4) The perpetual fallback license was critical to me. I would not have bought Jetbrains products if this didn't exist. If this is removed from future versions then I will probably migrate away to other products over time as I need new versions. The fallback license allows me to use the keey IDE's that I know I need, but also have an ability to try out the other IDE's if I need them in the near future. I can decide next year whether I still need an All products license or I can just renew the tools I need and keep the older license for the tools I may not need frequently.

5) I always get good feedback from people on Jetbrains tools and I also see that they catively reply to people. Furthermore I see that there are a lot of tutorial videos provided by Jetbrains. This is nice to see.

6) Jetbrains seems to actively develop and improve their tools over time. This will probably encourage me to renew my license next year, assuming there are features I want/need.

7) I like the idea of a consistent IntelliJ "way of doing things" which will be common across the various IDE's. So once I have learned how one IDE works I don't need to re-learn it when I also need to learn one of the other supported languages.

8) I see that in 2015 there was a lot of disappointment from customers about the move to a subscription license. But I also see that Jetbrains listened to their customers and quickly changed the license model to one which was mutually acceptable (the perpetual fallback license). This was important to me because it shows that you're a company that's prepared to reverse or change a bad decision after feedback from customers.

9) You support open source projects.

10) Had the All Products license been more expensive then I doubt I would have bough tit. I would, instead, have only bought a license for the tools I needed.

So, for now, you have a new customer and I'm looking forward to using your tools :)
