Move the .idea project settings location

Hi,
We have several people working on the same project, which causes PHPStorm to constantly pop up notifying the user that the project files have changed, prompting to reload the workspace.

Is there a way in which we could store the .idea project setting folder outside of the project directory, so that each user could have their own project settings folder?
For example, instead of storing the .idea folder inside the project directory, each user has their own .idea folder stored on their local machine - perhaps within the PHPStorm directory in the following fashion:
<PHPStorm path>/projects/<project name>/.idea

So when we access the actual project (stored on a shared server), it reads from the users pown project file, giving them their own work environment on the same project.

Any advice would be appreciated.
