IDEA Grabs Focus When Done With Tasks -- Arrgh!

Hi,

I can't stand when IDEA grabs the input focus after finishing some background task. It is terrible disruptive, and I'm almost ready to switch IDEs over it (along with many developers in my organization).

Someone said it's a "Windows" issue. I don't care ... PLEASE FIX IT .

Thanks,

Justin

After 3 years of swearing at focus stealing in IntelliJ, you'll get used to it :) (or not :) ).

Now, looking back, I know it was a good decision to use a second computer for all the other
tasks(and let IntelliJ alone on a computer to make it's way :) ).
You also need a keyboard/monitor switcher :) in order to keep the confort of work.

Because this is more a 'political' issue (MS vs SUN) or it needs too much changes in IntelliJ, for
the next 3 years this problem will be still around, so it's more realistic to take the approach I
mentioned above :).

Ahmed.

Hello Justin,

What version of IDEA you're using? AFAIK the problem is worked around in
version 5.0.

I still have this problem on Linux in the latest builds. Annoying as hell.

This is still happening in IntelliJ 5.1.

When will this be fixed?

Thanks,

Justin

Hello, I'm using the build 5321 on Linux for over 3 years.
And I agree it's most annoying feature/bug of Idea.
I understand it could be hard to fix in Idea... But I'd like to push for this issue.
Thanks.

As someone pointed out in private email, I correct the sentence:
"I'm using Idea on Linux for over 3 years. And I'm currently testing the build 5321."

I've finally found a solution: switch from Gnome to KDE.
KDE has an interersting property: "Focus stealing prevention level".
Set it to "Normal" is enough... And it's cheaper than working on two different computers.

This isn't fixed yet.
Start a debug session in IntelliJ.

switch to another window and begin typing and IntelliJ grabs the focus and adds what you type to whatever file you had open in InteliJ.

This is o broken it't amazing it's lasted 13 years.

The original problem of this topic was fixed. The issue with debugger stealing focus on Linux is reported here: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-202537

Please, vote to speed up fixing. If you are not familiar with YouTrack, see this instruction: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241135-How-to-follow-YouTrack-issues-and-receive-notifications
