It is back now because I am plugged in but I am now afraid what happens when I next undock :( It was coming and going when I was on battery. It never happened to me with prior versions.
Is there perhaps some setting about CPU usage? Maybe the system needs answers quick enough to allow code highlighting and on battery previous versions were more aggressive pushing CPU to higher speeds but now it's more power saving? Just speculating.
The IDE does nothing else at the time. Even in completely new projects where I just created an empty class, it is paused. Usually for several minutes (it seems to take longer or is completely shut off if the window is out of focus)
So my questions are: What exactly can be the reason for this? What is phpstorm doing here? What are the 2 roots that seem to be stuck in queue all the time? At what can I do to mitigate the issue?
Invalidating the index each time is not a solution, as long as I can't invalidate in on a per-project basis
And the cherry on top: I closed the project and tried to reopen it. Now it's stuck at "Loading components" what prevents me from working in any other open window as well. In a new project with exactly one php file that doesn't contain anything yet.
It could be very frustrating for sure, however, each case is different. By the way, is there any chance that your projects are located on a network share or behind the symlinks?
Hello,
Please provide more details - what highlighting exactly is "paused"? What is the exact behavior?
A video or some screenshots would be appreciated.
The green checkmark -- yellow square -- red exclamation mark in the right gutter, it changes to a grey pause mark, inspections no longer run, code is not highlighted any more. People have posted to https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/206897215-Code-analysis-has-been-suspended and https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205820559-Code-analysis-has-been-suspended-Doing-file-refresh- except neither applies. There's something with the system performance, I think -- because I only saw it on battery but when I right click , Customize highlighting level , power save mode is not checked.

Please check if it stays that way after File | Invalidate Caches / Restart.
If it does, please collect and upload the IDE log somewhere. Thank you!
i am also driving me crazy how to stop it !!!!!!
It doesn't happen without a reason.
Do you have anything in a bottom status bar? E.g. "Indexing...." or "Scanning files to index" message?
> It doesn't happen without a reason.
What are the possible reasons?

Infuriating
