Error when installing on Mac OS

Answered

I am trying to install IntelliJ IDEA 2017.3.5 on macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.6.

When dragging the application to the Applications folder, I get the following error: "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."

If I try a few more times to install, the installation seems to complete, but then if I restart my computer and reopen intellij, I get this error and need to reinstall the application:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.intellij.ide.plugins.PluginManager at com.intellij.util.lang.UrlClassLoader.findClass(UrlClassLoader.java:225) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:424) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:357) at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:348) at com.intellij.ide.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:36) at com.intellij.idea.Main.main(Main.java:79)

I tried disabling csr utility and opening up the permissions to the Applications directory to Read & Write for everyone, but this did not solve the problem. I am also logged in as an administrator.

Try to perform the disk check with the permissions fix. Do other applications install properly?

Does it happen with the current version from http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/index.html?

I performed a disk check while logged in, and it found a permissions issue. However, when I performed a disk check in Recovery Mode, everything was fine.

This same issues happened when I tried to install the latest version of WebStorm, but didn't happen with any other applications. Seems to just be with JetBrains applications.

My company doesn't have a license for the 2018 version of IntelliJ.

I forgot to clarify, I am still facing this issue.

Please try to delete the existing IntelliJ IDEA installation from the Applications directory completely. If it doesn't delete entirely, repeat the same with the superuser (root) permissions. Once there is no existing IntelliJ IDEA or WebStorm installation, try installing the app again.

Also try fixing the permissions of the Applications folder, see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5079552.

What you need to do is change the DMG drop down to the Silicon Version before downloading.
Hope this helps
