Why is Smart completion not the default option?

Just wondering, why is not smart type completion used by default instead of normal "dumb" completion?
Why do you have to press extra shift key instead of vice versa? What do I loose if I swap out bindings and remap ctrl + space to smart completion?

A lot of the completion variants are not available in the smart completion, you can give it a try.
