Autoscroll to Source
Answered
The "Autoscroll to Source" and "Autoscroll from Source" options that were in the Project window settings menu up to IDEA v. 2019.2 are gone in v 2019.3. Have they moved somewhere else? I can hit the crosshairs icon to make the Project window scroll to the file currently open in the editor, but I'd like that to happen automatically.

The options are at the same place, but were renamed:
Autoscroll to Source -> Open Files with Single Click
Autoscroll from Source -> Always Select Opened File
How are the new names any improvement over the older ones?
Huh, I can't help but wonder what this change does for the platform. It confuses me.
Renaming the options was supposed to make them easier to understand. We realise it may look unusual for the users who are used to the previous naming but please, give it a few more days to get used to, and after, in case if they will still look confusing to you, feel free to file a usability problem: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue
They are harder to understand now. The old names were self-explanatory, even to an experienced Unix programmer who normally does not use IDEs.
Hi T Glaser,
Thanks for the feedback.

Please, clarify, why the new naming is less self-explanatory than the previous one?
I no longer even see the icons? Where did they go in 2020.1.1?????
You have enabled the option to always select opened file, when this option is enabled, the button is no longer needed and is automatically removed from the panel.
Yeah, for me it was confusing enough to start googling for it. And how 'Always Select Opened File' is related to 'Open Files with Single Click'? They are now in one group.
radorado One describes synchronization of selection from project view to editor, the other - synchronization of selection from editor to project view.
Konstantin Annikov keep in mind these settings also affect how the Navigate -> File feature works as well. When I find a file with Navigate -> File, and open the file, the "Always select opened file" setting will make project view jump to (or Select) that file location. I also use the Navigate -> File feature to find a directory though. And opening the directory from the Navigate -> File view no longer "Scrolls" or "Selects" the directory in the project view. But through trial and error, I discovered using cmd-return would Select the directory in the project view. Was this change intentional?
@... Check on the latesst IDE version (2020.2) and with custom plugins disabled. Choosing a directory in "Navigate | File" window focuses this directory in project view for me.
Create a ticket if it does not work fo you.
Please don't rename things unless you are really really sure the new names are a big improvement.
It is really annoying to go looking for things that used to be there.
Also - and I cannot more strongly point this out - they don't work. Checking the box for "always select the opened file" does not automatically open the necessary folders to reveal the file. Please, please fix this??

Works fine here:
If it doesn't work for you, please report a bug at https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue?project=IDEA with the sample project to reproduce attached. Also provide the logs (Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data).
Thomas Belknap I don't know if this is your issue, but I've noticed it works for me when the dropdown is set to "Project", but not when it's set to "Project Files".
Ugh, this was my issue
Totally unintuitive that Project would behave different that Project Files in this scenario.
OH MY GOD. SAME. I can't believe this is a “feature” that only works sometimes. Just spent 20 minutes of banging around the web trying to figure out why my IDE can't do this basic thing correctly. Thanks Poneill00
And also, while I'm here, a big +1 on not renaming things that have been around for years just because you've had a whimsical notion that your new name is “better”.
Is there a way to not _Always_ Select Opened File but only when I click on a certain button or press a certain key combination, in Rider in Windows?
Select Opened File action / button is available when the option to automatically select the opened file is disabled in the Project View. Shortcut can be checked/changed in the Keymap settings and would depend on your OS/selected keymap.
