Multiple workspaces in IntelliJ 2020.1

Answered

Hi team,

Is it possible to have multiple workspaces/separate installations of IntelliJ IDEA 2020.1 in the same machine?

To give a bit more context, I work for my main employer, but also record videos to create programming courses/tutorials.

I'd like to have the recorded videos with the Welcome Screen that IntelliJ would show a user that has no projects or that only has the projects of the tutorials, so I don't want to mix both workspaces if possible.

Is this something that can be achieved?

Thanks!

Note: In case it helps, I work on a Windows 10 machine.

Hello,

Yes, it's possible if you use different configs/settings folders. See this comment with detailed instructions: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-35480#focus=streamItem-27-2341420.0-0

This worked, thanks.

It would be great to create a specific doc for IntelliJ users, and a bit more updated - some of the locations have changed in 2020.1.

In particular, there is a line about an environment variable specific to a different version of the IDE.

For IntelliJ I understand this should be IDEA_PROPERTIES instead of PHPSTORM_PROPERTIES.
