main menu in weird location

On one computer my intelliJ looks like this
this is what I prefer
but on another computer it looks like this
anyone know what causes this behavior / how to adjust it?
OS: Catalina 10.15.4

You are running IntelliJ IDEA on the old Java runtime that doesn't support macOS native menu. The solution is to always use the default bundled JetBrains Runtime for running our products, see https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/articles/206544879 for more details.
