how do I use jsp files?

whenever I try to use a JSP file it says syntax text highlight only. I have apache and maven downloaded. how do I solve this

Could you please clarify the issue? What do you expect to see?

Note that JSP support is a feature of IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate: https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/features/editions_comparison_matrix.html .

instead of using the JSP file it acts the same as a text file. is this a problem if I use the free version?

Yes, free version has no JSP support.

are there any file type that do a similar job like JSP (I need one who combines Javascript and HTML and SQL)

You will need IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate for JavaScript/SQL and JSP support anyway, please read https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/features/editions_comparison_matrix.html .
