Toolbox needs 450+ MB of RAM?
Answered
Subject says it all: on my Mac, the activity Monitor shows me 450+ MB memory usage for the tool box. Why on earth does a little utility that keeps track of installed/available tools, and my local projects need such amounts of memory?

You are right, that's too much. We're working on improving it and hope to share the new version soon.
Sounds great, thank you very much!
Came here searching for this. Been getting out of memory warnings and Toolbox is one of the largest offenders. Glad to hear there is a fix coming.
On Linux the ram consumption is still 300-400MB. The tool is really useful but the memory footprint is not justified. I guess that is because of the tools used for cross platform compatibility. I hope you can solve this one, especially for the case when it's sitting idle in the systray.
I echo what others have said in that it is a very helpful tool but idle RAM consumption is 383.4 MB (in linux). I had to disable it from running on startup.
(Linux) It seems this issue is not solved yet, had to disable Toolbox also and launch it only occasionally to handle updating, not very useful and certainly against the proposed usage.
2024-06-26, I too am seeing it hover around 400-500 MB. JetBrains Toolbox 2.3.2.31487, macOS 14.3, arm64.
Victor Kropp is there a ticket or something we can follow for the fix you referred to in your 2021 comment?
fwiw, after restarting, it very quickly takes up 300+ MB, but doesn't quite reach pre-restart levels for a while.
But either way, this is far too much memory for such a small util to be constantly taking up. I've opted to turn off ‘launch at startup’ as well, and just open when I need it, similar to Luiz.
A couple of hours ago I noticed that the toolbox process took up 1.2 GB (!), so I killed the process and restarted it. It then went back to 250 MB or something. Still high, but acceptable.
I then started to open it, from the system tray, and close it again. Almost every time I opened and then closed it, the memory usage increased by 20 to 50 MB, and right now it is up to using 700 MB. I have 32 GB RAM so it is not like my computer is struggling, but I am not happy with having this running all the time.
An application should not request more memory every time it is being opened.
I am using Linux Mint 22.1.
[EDIT] After some more testing it seems like it behaves a little bit better, when you open it and close it, if you turn off the following setting:
Appearance and Behaviour → Use background effect
